DesignMakeTeach in 3D Printing News

Busy week for DesignMakeTeach in the world of 3D printing.

3dprintingforbeginners.com asked me to contribute some tips for an article. The blog is run by Michel and Yves Sinner, who I had the pleasure of working with last summer at the Make 3D Printer shootout.

The MOM Gimbal was featured on Youmagine and is one of the cover images in the MOM featured collection on Thingiverse. A simple design remixing Bluebie’s gimbal. MOM Gimbal currently has over 5,000 views and 1,500 downloads. Creating designs related to holidays is a great student project that can generate a lot of interest in the 3D printing community.

The Blockhead Blank Design Challenge was featured on Adafruit’s #3DThursday Hangout with Noe and Pedro Ruiz. They did an awesome job of explaining the model. Budding 3D designers should watch the weekly hangouts. The layer by layer section is an awesome look into designing and problem solving for 3D printing. Video clip below.

I impulse purchased a Silhouette Cameo during an Amazon sale to add to my digital fabrication tools.  I’m hoping the speed will allow for quickly creating products from student designs. Vinyl stickers and maybe vibrobot bodies as a start.

I noticed that I’m posting a lot to Twitter and Instagram but those update get swallowed up in the stream. I need to collect some of the best of those posts on the blog for long term retrieval.

Please leave a comment or contact me on Twitter and let me know about your adventures in 3D printing, digital fabrication and makered.
